The international political situation was greatly troubled in recent times. A new crisis erupted appeared first as a financial crisis but quickly became clear that this is a deeper problem that concerns society as a whole, ie, the real economy, politics and culture .
then a case of a general crisis, the State Theory conference this year can not remain outside the debate on this issue. Therefore, we aim to discuss the different planes that compose it.

The themes of these IV conference is organized around three main areas:

I. Crisis and capitalist globalization
The crisis sharpened the question and encouraged discussion around the power of nation states in the context of globalization , requiring a reflection on international capital flows, the interference of the central countries in the politics of the peripheral countries and new forms of imperialism. In this context, we consider important to discuss the performance of agencies international (IDB, IMF, World Bank, ICSID or other) and that of transnational corporations in politics of different countries and responses designed to counter such interference.

II .- The State and American social and political actors in the context of international crisis
The retreat of neoliberalism in Latin America reconfigured the relationship between state and society in the region . Thus, the political changes of recent years have been the focus of discussion the concepts of hegemony, democracy and citizen participation forcing us to think the crisis of representation and transformation of the nation state in a new context. In this regard it is essential to analyze different political practices that are configured in this new context (both actors novel as social movements from political parties and movements), taking into account the articulation between local and global politics in the light recent transformations in Latin American states.

III .- New political issues in times of crisis
The crisis has exacerbated a series of increasingly problematic pressing contemporary reality. ethnic and racial problems, environmental issues, natural resources, food sovereignty are some new issues of direct concern to the ability of States to manage them. At the same time, lead to the articulation of different social and political actors that account for a reconfiguration of the forms assumed by social conflict in modern societies. In this sense, it is worth reflecting on the development of alternatives to the crisis and the way in which they articulate answers to the challenges of today, taking into account the different strategies to face the new political scenario, both the hegemonic bloc and from the poor sectors. As an example we can mention the World Social Forums or American constitutional processes.

The conference will also have a special axis "Reflections on the work of Nikos Poulantzas." At 30 years of the English edition of state power and socialism , invite participants to reflect on the relationship between state and class struggle, the problem of "democratic socialism", themes that invite us to think the relevance of Poulantzas for the analysis of contemporary political processes in Latin America.
